220 Words of Product Copy. Zero Structured Data. 2% AI Visibility.

Maxbone has the best product descriptions in the pet category. And the worst AI visibility. 220 words of rich copy trapped behind zero structured data.

Executive Summary

  • Brand: Maxbone is a premium/designer pet accessories brand. Beds, apparel, carriers, toys.
  • AI visibility score: 3/150 (2%) — the lowest in the pet audit set
  • The pattern: The best content quality paired with the worst technical infrastructure. Rich descriptions with no machine-readable path for AI agents to discover them.
  • Key competitor gap: West Paw at 37% has decent descriptions plus strong tags. Fable at 7% has thin descriptions plus strong structured data. Maxbone has great descriptions plus nothing else.
  • Root cause: Zero JSON-LD structured data, minimal tags ("BED", "Dog", "holiday", "member"), no machine-readable product attributes
  • Fix complexity: Medium — requires building structured data from scratch, but the content foundation is already strong

The brand

Maxbone is a premium, design-forward pet accessories brand. The product range includes beds, apparel, carriers, and toys. The brand positions on luxury aesthetics and quality materials.

The test

I ran 150 automated queries across ChatGPT, Gemini, and Copilot — 10 runs per query per platform, across five queries covering premium pet accessories, designer dog beds, stylish pet products, and DTC pet brands.

The results

3 out of 150 (2%). Three appearances across 150 automated tests.

The Davos Bed description is 220 words. Sizing for different dog weights. Materials and textures. Care instructions. Design details. This is genuinely rich product copy — the kind that helps a customer make an informed purchase decision.

But zero JSON-LD. Minimal tags — "BED", "Dog", "holiday", "member" — with nothing mapping to "luxury", "premium", or "designer."

Why this is happening

Compare three pet brands:

West Paw: Decent descriptions. 23-26 tags per product with terms like "Tough Chewer", "Indestructible", "Recyclable" that map directly to how customers search. Missing JSON-LD Product schema. 37% AI visibility. The tags are doing the heavy lifting.

Fable: Thin descriptions. But comprehensive JSON-LD with Product schema, aggregateRating, and offers markup. 7% AI visibility. The structured data gives AI agents a machine-readable path.

Maxbone: The richest descriptions of any pet brand tested at 220 words. But zero JSON-LD. Minimal internal tags. 2% AI visibility.

The brand with the best writing has the worst visibility. The brand with the best tags has the best visibility. The brand with the best structured data sits in between.

AI visibility is a stack: content quality, structured data, product attributes, editorial presence. You need multiple layers working together. Maxbone has invested in the content layer and neglected everything else.

What Maxbone could do, in priority order

Phase 1 (quick wins):

  • Add JSON-LD Product schema with aggregateRating, Offers, and brand property to every product page
  • Replace internal tags with discovery attributes: "luxury-dog-bed", "designer-pet", "premium-materials", product type, dog size

Phase 2 (medium effort):

  • Build review infrastructure — install a review app, add aggregateRating to structured data
  • Claim and manage Trustpilot profile

Phase 3 (longer term):

  • Pursue editorial roundup inclusion for "best designer dog beds", "best luxury pet accessories"
  • Create comparison content positioning against mass-market alternatives

Close

Description quality gets you considered. Structured data gets you discovered. Attributes get you matched. You need all three.

Maxbone proves that content quality alone does not drive AI visibility. The writing is excellent but trapped — no machine-readable path for any AI agent to discover it. No brand in the pet set has all layers working together. The one that gets there first will own the AI recommendation space.
